DEMO radioactive wastes: Decarburization, recycling and reuse by additive manufacturing

چکیده

Recycling is a real indicator of whether any nuclear industry taking seriously about reducing its radioactive waste volume. Hence, manufacturing components starting from recycled activated material originated by DEMO reactor, with the relative techniques, might be an important factor to support environmental sustainability fusion management. Accordingly, in this work feasibility recycling materials decommissioned plants are presented. In initial part, powder production steels AISI 316 L(N) and EUROFER their use Additive Manufacturing (AM) technologies investigated as studied during EUROfusion Consortium funded activities. Chemical-physical parameters processed have been defined, together viability, producing metal powders industrial VIGA (Vacuum Induction Gas Atomizer) facility. Experimental activities performed, aiming at characterization. A preliminary analysis processing these via selective laser melting (SLM) has carried out. Additional results presented for experiments out on decarburization pollution solid lithium orthosilicate breeder (Li4SiO4) coming refractory material, simulating thermal process Li4SiO4 or recycling, assessing impact platinum, zirconia, graphite mullite quality removing impurities.

Coal Combustion Wastes Reuse in Low Energy Artificial Aggregates Manufacturing

Sustainable building material design relies mostly on energy saving processes, decrease of raw materials consumption, and increase of waste and by-products recycling. Natural and lightweight artificial aggregates production implies relevant environmental impact. This paper addresses both the issues of residues recycling and energy optimization. Particularly, three coal combustion wastes (Weathe...

Disposal of Radioactive Wastes

Almost all major nuclear operations produce residues containing radioactive materials; in reactor operations, for example, the fission products, new elements (such as plutonium) produced by neutron irradiation and the unfissioned nuclear fuel are all radioactive. Some of this material can be put to further use: useful radioisotopes, for instance, can be extracted from the fission products and p...

Downblending Contaminated Radioactive Wastes

Dilution is the mixing of radioactive waste with non-radioactive material, whereas downblending is the mixing of high-level radioactive waste with low-level radioactive waste. These processes have been applied predominantly at nuclear sites as part of the decontamination procedures for the disposal of blended wastes in licensed facilities. Proper health and safety assessments should be carried ...

Mass Customization: Reuse of Digital Slicing for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, enables production of complex customized shapes without requiring specialized tooling and fixture, and mass customization can then be realized with larger adoption. The slicing procedure is one of the fundamental tasks for 3D printing, and the slicing resolution has to be very high for fine fabrication, especially in the recent developed Contin...
